SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

LIT Magazine accepts Poetry, Prose, Cross-Genre, Translation, Book Reviews, and Art. Please submit your work via our portal on Submittable. If your work does not fit into any of our categories, choose one and make a note in your cover letter. We appreciate your attention to guidelines and reading periods. We will respond as quickly as we can. However, due to the volume of contributions we receive and read, response times may be long. Thank you for your interest in LIT!

Contributor Guidelines:

Please read a recent issue of LIT to get a sense of what we publish.

  • All contributions should be uploaded in a single document, beginning with a brief cover letter (including bio).
  • Poetry should be 3 poems or 7 pages max. Prose can be excerpted from a longer work but should be no longer than 15 pages, double-spaced. Please respect these guidelines in regards to page counts.
  • Art submissions should not number more than seven images. If we want to see more, we will let you know.
  • Separate submissions may be made for each category. Please do not send multiple submissions to the same category.
  • Please wait for a response from LIT before sending more work.
  • Our open reading periods for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid are April 15th – June 15th and September 15th – December 15th.
  • Submissions for Art and Translation are open all the time.
  • If you are alumni or soon to be alumni of the Creative Writing Program at The New School, please make a note in your cover letter. We do not accept submissions from current students in the program.
  • We accept previously unpublished work and do not accept work for reprint.
  • We accept simultaneous submissions but request to be informed as early as possible if a submission is accepted elsewhere.
